    (2) 70th birthday of his amiable and lovely wife, Madam Grace Olufunmilayo Samuel (actual date is April).

Also in attendance was Mrs. Ayo Adesakin.

Speaker after speaker made reminiscences about and poured encomiums on Sir Rupert for his many virtues and positive attitudes towards the association and its members. Specific mention was made about the sustained support he has been giving the association to ensure that it remains alive and relevant today.

The unscripted but determined academic efforts of the trio of Charleans/Caroleans (Professor) BB Adeleke, Late Dr. Anthony Adejumo and Sir Rupert Solomon Olaitan Samuel which culminated in their  sterling performances in their HSC exploits at Kings College, Lagos (best result in Kings and Nigeria), Government College, Ibadan and St. Gregory's College, Obalende, Lagos (best result in Greg's) respectively sent words round the old Western Region in particular and Nigeria in general about a new citadel of secondary education and gave publicity as to where parents could direct their wards for knowledge. The influx of students from all the nooks and crannies of Nigeria into St. Charles' after the HSC endeavors of these 3 distinguished Charleans was a great testimony and has been a good reference point in the history of St. Charles'.

In all, Sir Rupert was appreciated for being a very good and productive citizen of the country (from his days at National Steel Development Company, now Ajaokuta Steel Company, Shell Petroleum Development Company, later Eleme Petrochemical Company and lastly, Indorama Petrochemical Company) and a very good product of our alma maters.

Madam Grace Olufunmilayo Samuel's role as a supportive wife and mother was specially noted and praised.

Prayers for divine protection and longevity of the celebrants and all Charleans and their family members were said by Charleans Majek Okunola Owoo, Folusho Oyesiku and Tayo Orekoya.

SCOBA birthday card gifts were presented by SCOBA President, Charlean Rotimi Aluko to Sir & Madam Rupert Samuel while Engr./Pst. Folusho Oyesiku presented a well packaged material gift on behalf of SCOBA to the couple.

Then came sessions for photographs, dining, wining and reminiscing of happenings during our years in school.

Responding, Sir Rupert thanked the association for deeming it fit to celebrate him and his wife on his 74th and his wife's 70th, noting that he also received gifts from the association for his 73rd birthday in 2020. According to him, his guiding principle in life is to serve  humanity well so as to continually attract God's mercy and blessings.

Here's wishing the couple many more years, in good health and happiness.

    Humility! Humilitas!!

    Signed:

    Pius Adesakin
