DEBICITY CROSSED INTO HIS GOLDEN JUBILEE.
Our own very resourceful Charlean Adebowale Adewumi, of Stanza 827, Acting Secretary, SCOBA-UK Chapter, Admin, SCOBA website and member SCOBA Global Communication Team, is 50 years old today and the entire Charlean family is celebrating this landmark birthday big time.
Debo was born on November 18, 1970 to Late Pa Festus Adewumi (father) and Chief (Mrs.) Victoria Adewumi (mother). His primary education was at Adenle Primary School, Ayetoro, Osogbo and Apoun Baptist Day School, Isale Osun, Osogbo. He was admitted into St. Charles' Grammar School, Osogbo in 1982 and graduated therefrom in 1987. He spent 1(one) academic year at the Federal School of Arts & Science, Ondo (for HSC) before securing admission into Edo State University to study Mechanical Engineering. He went further to study Mechanical Engineering (1999) and Environmental Health (2009) at postgraduate levels and obtaining M.Sc degrees in them from University of Lagos and King's College, London respectively. His NYSC was in Jos, Plateau State in 1988.
DEBO's FORAYS & FEATS IN THE CORPORATE WORLD
*During his service year, his special skills in IT were noticed and tapped into by the then Plateau State government. His project of 'articulating with permutation and combination stratagems' was adopted into the government's 'Better Life for Rural Women' programme;
*starting out with Mobil Oil in 1999 as Facilities Maintenance Engineer and setting up the 'Control Centre' at Mobil House, Victoria Island, for (a) monitoring all Mobil Onshore and Offshore Assets during the Y2K crossover year and (b) early detection and contingencies implemented to avert glitches and loss-making events....which helped the company in saving cost and eventually earned Debo a Maintenance Supervisory role for Mobil House, Mobil Court and extension facilities in Lagos;
He relocated to UK in 2002.
*at Castro BP Industrial UK, his interest and skill in system analysis blossomed;
*at Transport for London/London Underground - the oldest metro system in the world, he became a Permanent Way Engineer;
*a Team Member of the Group that set up, implemented and deployed the contactless systems interface and controls for 'LONDON 2012 OLYMPICS';
*he is a STEMNET AMBASSADOR for Transport for London and was extended an invitation to the House of Lords by Lord Oxburgh KBE;
*he joined the Royal Borough of Greenwich as 'Environmental Lead' and
*Debo is on the Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Community in Waltham Forest (NICOWF).
We note two (2) other siblings of Debo who passed through St. Charles' viz:
*Victor Adewumi - 75/80 Set - eldest brother*
*Wale Adewumi - 79/84 Set - elder brother*
Wale is SCOBA's Financial Secretary and a member of the current CEC.
SCOBA CEC specially remembers the Patriarch of the Adewumi family, Late Pa Festus Adewumi, who passed on in 2016. We fondly recall Late Pa Adewumi as the neat, calm, sound educator who laid proper foundation for many Charleans in the Sciences, particularly Biology and Chemistry. May Baba's soul continue to rest in perfect peace. We hear that Late Pa Adewumi's wife, Mama Victoria Adewumi will be 80 this Saturday. SCOBA CEC wishes Mama a happy birthday in advance.
Charlean Adebowale Adewumi is an active member of Stanza 827 and SCOBA-UK Chapter (of which he has been Acting General Secretary since 2014). He has hosted members of SCOBA at different times and his house was the venue of the SCOBA-UK Summer Get-Together event in July 2019. His interest and skills in web designs qualified and made him one of the Web Admins of SCOBA website, www.charleansworlwde.com. He is also a member of SCOBA Global Communication Team.
He is a lover of good football and a staunch supporter of Arsenal Football Club.
Debo is happily married to his Entrepreneur/Property Developer-wife and both are blessed with 2 young-adult children.
