  • BIRTHDAY GREETINGS TO SCOBA WORLDWIDE BOT CHAIRMAN,
    CHARLEAN PROFESSOR BENJAMIN ADELEKE

TODAY (10/11/2020), the entire Charlean family celebrates our own revered BOT Chairman and erudite Scholar, Charlean (Professor) B.B. Adeleke, as he marks his 74th birthday.

Professor Adeleke was born on November 10, 1946 to Late Pa Agboola Akande Adeleke and Late Chief (Mrs.) Abigail Morenike Adeleke, both indigenes of Osogbo.

    EDUCATION

Professor Adeleke's education started at John McKay Primary School, Oke Ayepe Osogbo between 1952 and 1958. He also attended Local Authority  (L. A.) Modern Secondary School,  Osogbo between 1959 and 1960. He was admitted into St. Charles' Grammar School, Osogbo in 1961, wrote his WASCE and came out with Division One in 1965. He proceeded to King's College, Lagos for his HSC between 1966 and 1967, passing out with a very outstanding result viz:

    Physics - A.    Chemistry - A.    Pure Maths - A.     Applied Maths - B

He thereafter sat for the much dreaded University of London GCE Advanced Level in January 1968 and obtained Distinctions in Chemistry and Mathematics, with an Excellent Grade in Physics. This flurry of very outstanding results paved way for his eventual admission on merit, into the University of Ibadan in 1968, where he studied Chemistry. He graduated with a First Class Honours Degree therefrom and proceeded to the Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada in 1972 for his M.Sc and Ph.D Degrees, both of which he completed in a record 4-year period. WHAT A FEAT!

    SCOBA FOUNDATION
WHILE in University of Ibadan, Charlean Adeleke and three other fellow students of the university who are products of St. Charles' took the decision early on arrival on campus to position St. Charles' Alumni flag in side by side competition with Old Boys Associations of very old schools such as Kings College, St. Gregory's, St. Finbars, Igbobi College etc. It is worthy to note that their audacity was won ahead as several members of St. Charles' trail-blazing had attended some of the great old schools for their HSC studies and had led their whole pack in the HSC exams for the year. For example, Charlean Adeleke led the pack in Kings College, Charlean Rupert Olaitan Samuel led the St. Gregory pack, Charlean Adejumo led the pack at Government College, Ibadan, Charlean Felix Babalola in Loyola College, Ibadan.

In 1968, with only about three sets produced yet by the then 8-year old St. Charles', the audacious University of Ibadan Friendly Trio of:
    1) Charlean Felix Babalola
    2) Charlean Babatunde Adeleke
    3) Charlean Anthony Adewale Adejumo
leveraging on their  personal closeness and inspiration from their HSC colleges and relationships, founded SCOBA for the benefit of mankind and as a platform for giving back to the school that helped in lifting them.

Charlean Felix Babalola emerged as the First President of the Association.

The teething stage of the young SCOBA went through several severe stress experience as Charlean Adeleke proceeded to Canada for his post-graduate Programmes and a devastating disaster struck in 1973 when The President of the fledgling SCOBA, Charlean FELIX Babalola died in a ghastly motor accident while Charlean Adeleke was still far away in Canada.

On arrival back to Nigeria in 1976, Charlean Adeleke spearheaded the "second" life of SCOBA by mobilising Charleans available, especially 1966 set, around the SCOBA Cause. In this resuscitation phase of SCOBA, he especially found extra-valuable partnership in Charlean Oshuola Ayinde of 1966 who emerged as the first ever Secretary of SCOBA while Charlean Adeleke served as the President (the 2nd ever) and served from 1978-1982 during which period the Association was firmly entrenched and set ready to grow into the global giant it over the decades had become.
    .
